TYRRELL 007 1974

Although Jackie Stewart had taken his cars to their third World Championship, the 1973 season ended tragically for Ken Tyrrell when the hugely popular, young French driver, Francois Cevert, was killed during a crash in practice at the last race of the season, the US grand Prix. As Jackie had already told Ken that he was retiring that year, the team had to start the following season with all new, young drivers. Thus Patrick Depailler backed up Jody Scheckter who had already agreed to be hired the previous year and Jody drove the Derek Gardner designed 007 at the first of the European GPs in Spain where he took the car to 5th place. Then, in Jody's hands, the car took 3rd in the Belgian GP, 2nd at Monaco and 1st in Sweden. This first victory for the South-African was backed up by Patrick Depailler taking 2nd place on the same podium. Patrick also got his first pole as well as fastest lap of the race.

Jody got another 1st at the British GP and was in contention for the Championship but the last five races of the season took Emerson Fittipaldi to the top, leaving Jody to take 3rd in that year's rankings. Whilst Patrick Depailler only got to 9th place in the Championship points, the season could hardly have been a disappointment to Ken Tyrrell after losing both his drivers only the year before.

When we started modeling this car we wanted to see what extra details we could add that we had not tried before. So here, as it took 1st at the Swedish GP of 1974, is the Tyrrell 007 with scrubbed tyres, the flexible emergency air supply tube to Jody's helmet and, another first for us, a transparent visor, behind which is modeled the driver's face. Also we have modeled the Cosworth V8 exhaust as it was on this particular car. Whilst the same engine was used on other cars, note how here it actually wraps around the lower suspension arm.

We enjoy the challenge of finding ever more detail to add to our models and we know that collectors appreciate the difference.

This car will be available quite soon. Look out for it at your favourite supplier.
